Landscape Ontario Horticultural Association (“LO”) in partnership with Skills Advance Ontario (SAO), funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario, has launched the new Get Ready for Opportunities at Work (GROW) program. This innovative and strategic training program will support the development and growth of three new pilot programs that include: New Entrant Worker training, an Incumbent Worker development and advancement program, and an Employers of Choice program. The project truly supports achievement of numerous strategic goals for employers all under one program.

The GROW program works closely with partners, job-seekers, employers, and incumbent workers to help them to access the services provided. LO:

  • Promotes the program to eligible suitable job seekers, incumbent workers and employers;
  • Advises applicants, participants, employers and incumbent workers on all aspects of the GROW program;
  • Administers the registration process through the collection of documentation;
  • Delivers the 3 unique training programs;
  • Helps connect job-ready new entrant worker program participants to job opportunities;
  • Connects new entrant participants, incumbent workers and employers to pathways for advancements such as the Apprenticeship program;
  • Provides resources, tools, mentorship and coaching to participants in the 3 training programs to support successful completion;
  • Administers monitoring, tracking and reporting of outcomes and participant progress as required by the government.

The GROW program will:

  • Attract and train new workers and help place them with employers with in-demand jobs;
  • Offer professional development and advancement training to incumbent workers in the profession;
  • Provide pathway guidance and supports to new and incumbent workers, and support them in pursuing development and advancement opportunities that includes registration in the Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship program; and
  • Offer and deliver an Employers of Choice program to increase competitiveness.
