The Employers of Choice Program works with eligible sector employers to advance their ability to attract, recruit and retain a dedicated team of exceptional staff. New this year, the Employers of Choice Peer-to-Peer Network supports continued collaboration between program alumni and leaders as they endeavour to improve their human resource asset.

Training is provided free of charge.

The GROW Program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario.

Our goal is to build and retain a skilled and competitive workforce. To advance this goal, Landscape Ontario is launching an Employers of Choice Program for employers. The Employers of Choice Program is an 8-week applied training program that will be delivered virtually and is intended to strengthen and build workforce practices within each participating company.

The Employers of Choice Program will provide participating employers with actionable tools, training and networking opportunities. In turn, participants will learn how to implement best practices and techniques that will ultimately improve workforce attraction, recruitment, retention and productivity.

Program Structure and Commitment

Program Length: 8 Weeks
Dates: Dec. 2–11, 2020 and Jan. 6 – Feb. 19, 2021

Training will be delivered on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm via video conference.

clockTime Commitment:

Approximately 8 hours per week:

  • 2 hours per week of online group-based training; and
  • 6 hours of independent work per week using and applying program tools in the business.

Additional Requirements: Participating employers will be required to:

  • Complete pre and post program self-assessments in order to measure goals and progress;
  • Administer a survey among their employees and encourage completion of the survey in advance of the program in November 2020 and June 2021. Worker survey results will be anonymous and will be used to assess the impact of the program within each participating company.
  • Develop and complete a 4 and 8 month action plan to support the enhancement of current workforce and employee practices, with the goal of improving workforce attraction, retention and productivity.

Participants will receive tools and training related to the following topics:

Program Requirements + Eligibility

  • 1 and maximum of 2 staff per participating company in positions responsible for managing staff and making hiring decisions.
  • All employers must commit to participate in all training sessions, complete pre and post assessments, encouraging their employees to complete the program survey,  and complete the required pre and post assessments.
  • All participating employers must commit to and participate in all 8 weeks of the program (2 hours in class online, and approximately 6 hours per week of independent work). Training will be: Dec. 2–11, 2020 and Jan. 6 – Feb. 19, 2021. Training will be delivered on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm via video conference.
  • Commit to enhancing workforce practices, and fully participating in the program and implementing change.

Each individual applicant is required to complete an application form. We will follow-up within two weeks from the date of submission or by November 15, 2020. Thank you for your interest in building your skills and growing your business and workforce!

Frequently Asked Questions:

This training is designed for individuals who are responsible for managing, hiring and developing staff. Successful participants should have the capability to make changes to current processes and practices and have a desire to do so to achieve their goals.

Participants in the Employer of Choice Program will learn about and gain experience using 8 tools and practices to be applied in their businesses to enhance workforce attraction, retention and productivity. Participants will also gain awareness and understanding of factors contributing to current results.

The Employer of Choice Program will be delivered and facilitated over Zoom and Google Classrooms.

Training will be provided on how to use both platforms.

Access to reliable internet and a computer is required for participation in the program.

Participants will also receive a workbook by mail to support participation in the program.

As part of this program, we will issue an anonymous pre and post survey to the employees of all the companies that participate in the program. This data will be shared in aggregate (not by individual company) with the program participants to provide feedback on where the group is as a whole related to workforce practices and also assess changes four months after the program in June 2021.

In order to keep employee responses confidential, individual firm level responses will not be shared.

To successfully complete the program, participants are required to complete 8 assignments (one per week). Attendance of all sessions is expected to support program completion.
The instructors will work with the group to accommodate those involved in snow removal.
To support participation of as many LO members as possible, at this time participation is limited to a maximum of two people per company.

This program is designed to work with people who are currently responsible for managing, hiring and developing staff. Only those in positions with this responsibility are eligible to participate in this program.

Due to the delivery method, having access to reliable internet that allows you to regularly access email, Zoom and Google Classroom is required.

The intention of the Employer of Choice Program is to create a safe and constructive environment for learning and sharing among participants.

All program participants will be required to abide by a code of conduct that includes maintaining the confidentiality of information shared by other members in the program.

This program is at no cost to participants, it is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario.
All applicants will be notified by November 15, 2020.
Yes. All participants require the support of their manager to participate in the program, including those who are seasonally laid-off.
LO will mail a workbook to program participants in advance of the program. Participants are required to have their own access to a computer and stable internet to participate in the program.
Yes. Training on how to use Google Classroom and Zoom will be provided at the beginning of the program.
